The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which has been probing into alleged faulty process of allotting contract works in Manipur University has framed chargesheets against five employees of the State.
The investigating agency has also chargesheeted three ZRA cadres for their role in drawing money from UBI Churachandpur branch, in another case.
A reliable source informed The Sangai Express that CBI would further probe into many other cases related with corruption in the State.
The five employees against whom the CBI has filed chargesheets in the Court are Executive Engineer Kh Shyamchandra, Assistant Engineer L Meghachandra, University Engineer S Rajen, Engineering Supervisor K Dhanabati and Library Assistant Th Shyam.
The CBI submitted the chargesheets in the Court of Special Judge, Imphal East on June 17, this year.
In the course of the investigation, CBI found that Dhanabati forged signature of a contractor and allotted the contract work for ground improvement near the university hospital to a firm of her choice.
The contract work required three different quotations.
But all the three rate quotations were modified by Dhanabati using some liquid.
On the other hand, with regard to the deceitful withdrawal of Rs 4.54 crores out of the Multi Sectorial Development Programme fund from UBI Churachandpur branch in October 2009, the CBI has submitted its chargesheets in the Court of CJM Churachandpur in April this year.
Churachandpur Police had already registered a case and started investigation into the case but it was handed over to the CBI mid way by an order of the State Government.
The CBI started its investigation into the case since March last year.
Although the whole amount was paid back by the ZRA, three of its cadres were identified as the prime accused for drawing the amount fraudulently.
In connection with this case, one ZRA cadre was apprehended by Assam Rifles and handed over to the CBI.
The cadre is currently in judicial custody while the three prime accused are still at large.
