'Contractor' asked to refund Rs 1.5 cr

Imphal, August 20 2022: GG Rongmei, the Special Class Contractor from Thangmeiband Tarung, Imphal West who is accused of swindling a huge amount of money has been directed to refund an amount of Rs 1,52,20,404 within seven days.

Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) Engineering Officer K Romeo Singh issued a notice to this effect on August 17.It was earlier reported that the full or real name of GG Rongmei is Gangmei Gaidon Rongmei and he is the ex-Corporator of IMC Ward No 1 .

As per preliminary findings of the departmental enquiry committee constituted by IMC to enquire into the identity of Special Class Contractor GG Rongmei and status of the various works of IMC awarded to him, many of the works have not been executed or left incomplete.

However, the amounts drawn by the ex-IMC Corporator in the name of these works do not commensurate with the volume of works done/executed by him, the notice pointed out.

Informing that the amounts drawn for each of the works awarded to GG Rongmei and the estimated value of the non-executed portions have been worked out, the Engineering Officer asked the ex-Corporator to refund a total amount of Rs 1,52,20,404 within seven days.
