ATSUM to go ahead with planned shutdown, blockade

As no amicable solution could be achieved at a meeting held today between the State Government and representatives of ATSUM, ANSAM and KSO Ghqs today, the student bodies have resolved to go ahead with the planned 24 hours total shutdown in the hill districts on November 20 and indefinite economic blockade along National Highways from November 22 .
In a statement issued today, Khaiminlen Doungel, information and publicity secretary ATSUM, said that representatives of the student bodies were invited by the State Government following which the representatives met the Chief Minister at his office to discuss the 'Manipur Hill Areas ADC Bill, 2021'.After both the sides stated their stands at the meeting, no agreeable solution was reached at the meeting.

He added that it was very unfortunate that the Government has been misleading the public by claiming that the Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Councils Act 1971 is an Act enacted by the Parliament and cannot be repealed by the State Government while the reality states otherwise.
The Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Councils Act 1971 was repealed by the State Government after enacting the Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Councils Act, 2000 .
He urged the State to convene a special session of Manipur Legislative Assembly to table the HAC recommended Manipur (Hill Areas) ADC Bill 2021 and also sought support of all the right thinking people.
