Imphal, August 19 2015:
Various clubs along Keishampat-Kwakeithel stretch of Tiddim road have demanded clarifications from N Hemanta, Editor of vernacular daily, Hueiyen Lanpao and local TV channel Impact TV for the Editor's alleged unrestrained, offensive and negative remarks against protesters along Tiddim line in a live talk programme of the TV channel, 'Manung Hutna' .
A meeting of various clubs, Meira Paibis and organisations of Tiddim road stretch from Keishampat to Kwakeithel was held today at the premises of Rising Youth Club, Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.
N Hemanta, in Impact TV's live talk show, reportedly made offensive com- ments against agitators along Tiddim road which undermined the protesters and smacked of character assassination, spokesperson of the clubs and Meira Paibis, Sh Sukhdev said.
As such, the Editor and the TV channel should come out with a clarification within three days.
If not, the next course of action will be chalked out by convening another joint meeting, Sukhdev said.
Deeply hurt by the non-fulfilment of the demands, spontaneous and intensified protests were launched along Tiddim line like in other parts, he said.
It is very unfortunate that the residents along Tiddim line have been depicted as trigger-happy and have the passion to incite troubles.
It is also equally unfortunate that the host of the TV show asked question to the editor that apparently meant to cast the ongoing agitation/protests in the wrong light.
A written complaint will also be sent to All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) and Editors' Guild Manipur, he added.
Sukhdev also demanded clarification from the Director of JNIMS for making similar negative comments against agitators along Tiddim line.
A club christened, Keishampat to Malom Clubs, Organisations, Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (ILP) was formed during the meeting.
