Evict NSCN-IM camps from state, MCPM tells government

Imphal, June 19 2017: The Maoist Communist Party, Manipur has asserted that the total silence of the government on the issue of killing of civilians by NSCN-IM in Ukhrul brought shame to the people of Manipur and belittled the sacrifice of the 18 individuals who lost their lives during the June 18 uprising.

In a communiqu� released by the coordinator of its standing committee, Kyonghan Mangang, the party said the NSCN-IM's hand in the killing has been made very clear after the Naga outfit announced the formation of an investigation team to probe into the incident.

In such circumstances, the decision of the state government to surrender the task of investigating the crime to NSCN-IM is clear proof that the former no long commands any administrative power in Ukhrul, the MCPM alleged.

The stand of the administration will cause the people to hide their faces in shame and they should be condemning the indifference of the government to the abject submission in the strongest terms, the MCPM stated.

Charging the state government of having characteristics of not reacting to challenges posed to matters close to the hearts of the general people in the past as well, it questioned the former's silence over the killing of a labourer in Moreh and the total shutdown called by United Naga Council on the occasion of the last June 18 anniversary observation.

Such partisan outlook for the hills and valley in the policies of the state government will over a period of time will lead to problems that will threaten the integrity of the state, it predicted.

The administration must produce the perpetrators of the Ukhrul killings and Moreh murder by June 30 and award punishment fit for their crimes, the outfit said in the statement and further announced that in the event of the failure of the government to do so it will clamp a 12-hour general strike on July 1 1, 2017 from 5 am to 5 pm.

It clarified that the party has no objection to the government injecting more development funds in the hills for making improvement in the conditions there, however it regretted that the latter is turning its eyes away when a group is attempting to destabilize normalcy.

Claiming that the NSCN-IM has no legal sanction to open camps on the soil of Manipur, the MCPM asked the state government to take up action for demolition of its camps in existence in the state, adding that the MCPM will on its own lead a campaign to evict the NSCN-IM's camps from the state from October 1, 2017 .
