Imphal, March 19 2020:
Deeply concerned by the incident which occurred at Chassad village, Kamjong district on March 16, the Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) has appealed to one and all to refrain from spreading any false news which can create panic and problems and harm the peace among the communities residing in Manipur.
A statement issued by the MBC Secretariat further appealed to the public, Churches, associations etc to aid in rebuilding the lives of those who have been affected by the violence, by giving donations or any other aid to the MBC office, Chingmeirong.
It then narrated that soon after the incident, members of MBC visited the incident site on March 18 along with relief materials for the affected families.
The members prayed for the affected people of Chassad village and also met the locals of Kamjong village so as to find ways and means for restoration of peace at the earliest between the two villages, it added.
On the other hand, CPI Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) has also demanded the State Government to provide necessary compensation to the affected families of Chassad village at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at Irawat Bhawan today, the party's secretary L Sotinkumar said that a team of CPI-MSC, led by him, visited the incident site today and witnessed a sorry state of affairs with burned houses and destroyed properties.
The Government should ensure timely compensation for those affected by the incident instead of constantly appealing for peace and tranquillity, he reasoned.
He further alleged that even though the present State Government has launched many initiatives like Go to Hills and Go to Village, the situation is very different when one reaches Kamjong District HQ as the area lacks proper infrastructure including DC office, fire service, hospital, markets etc.
The DC office of the district is currently under construction and the DC and SP of Kamjong often operate from Imphal, he claimed, further adding that only a handful of police personnel are also utilised by the office of the district SP and they themselves are not properly armed as well.
