Imphal, December 18 2024:
Peeved with the indifference of the Government despite repeated appeals to repair the potholes ridden Imphal-Pangei road, the Imphal-Pangei Road Joint Development Committee (IPRJDC) has resolved to intensify their protest.
Notably, IPRJDC launched the indefinite road closure protest against the non-repairment of the road stretch yesterday.
Speaking to the media, IPRJDC convenor Salam Ibopishak said that they have been restricting the movement of all kinds of vehicles including essential service providers along the route by erecting barricades at different points since yesterday.
Saying that they submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Work Minister and Khurai AC MLA to repair the road on January 10, 2024, he said that they signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PWD officials on April 27 to begin the road repair work by June 15.Continuing that some potholes were fixed as agreed on June 15, Ibopishak maintained that the work was halted due to incessant rainfall and the subsequent floods.
He said that they approached the Executive Engineer of PWD to resume the work as soon as the weather condition improves.
Saying that they submitted another memorandum on December 11 to the Works Minister and MLAs of Khurai and Khundrakpam ACs to repair the road, he said that they decided to close the road as no positive response came from the Government.
The EE of PWD, Imphal East came to the site of the protest and gave his assurance that the potholes will be repaired, he said but added that they will continue the protest until the actual work commences.
