3 Manipuris attacked in Bangalore, attackers arrested

Imphal, August 17, 2012: In a latest attack on North East people, three Manipuris were assaulted by local miscreants at Bangalore's Shanti Nagar area on Friday morning.

Latter, police arrested the attackers.

Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, DCP of Bangalore Police, Ravikanthe Gowda confirmed that three Manipuris were attacked by 5 local Muslims.

Due to the attack, they got minor injuries.

Victims have been identified as Liyalien, Robert and Sanjit.

Regarding the attack, a case has been registered with Wilson Garden Police station.

Among the five attackers, Police have identified two attackers as Abhram Abrar and Salman.

The DCP also informed that police have found inflammatory videos and MMS from cell phones of the arrested attackers, and assured that action would be taken up against them.

After the incident, patrolling of local police has been intensified in all Bangalore urban area, where mainly North East people reside in large number.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Dr Meinya raised the issue of attacking North East people in some Indian cities in Lok Sabha on Friday.

During the discussion hour, Dr Meinya said that the recent fleeing of North East people residing in Karnataka's Bangalore, Maharashtra and Kerala is due to the incident of attacking Manipuri people in Pune.

Meanwhile, Joint Student's Co-ordination Committee (JSCC), a joint forum of Manipur's apex students' bodies, has condemned the attacks on North East students in some Indian cities.

Speaking to media during a press conference, Convenor of JSCC, Longjam Umakanata said that displacement of students from their places of study has created a chaotic situation among a large number of students studying in various parts of the country.

Urging the state government to take some concrete steps to ensure full protection of Manipuris residing in other Indian cities, he appealed to the state government to send an investigation team to find out the real situation of Manipruis in those states where Manipuris are being attacked by local miscreants.
