Class X, Class XII board exams cancelled

Education Minister S Rajen Singh has announced the cancellation of Class X exams conducted by the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) and Class XII exams conducted by the Council Of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) Exam, 2021 .
The Minister announced the cancellation of the annual two major examinations at the conference hall of Old Secretariat today.
Orders have also been issued in the regard.
He said that the Government, after thorough discussion and consultation with the stakeholders and experts, decided to cancel this year's Class X, XI and XII exams due to COVID-19 pandemic and its impact on society.
Rajen explained that a 14 member committee has been constituted to develop an alternative assessment/evaluation mechanism for assessment of students of Class X and XII .
Commissioner (Education-S) and Director (Education-S), Manipur will be the Chairman and Convenor of the committee respectively.
Modalities of the award of marks, certificates to the students shall be done by this committee with due approval of the Government, he added.
The Minister appealed to all to cooperate with the decision of the Government.
He also wished the students a bright future and success.
Commissioner, Education, M Harekrishna, Director, Education (S), L Nandakumar Singh, Chairmen and Secretaries of BOSEM and COHSEM and others were also present during the occasion.
The HSLC Examination was cancelled in view of uncertain condition due to COVID-19 pandemic and feedbacks obtained from various stakeholders, said the Secretary of BOSEM in a notification issued earlier in the day today.
Issuing a similar notification, the COHSEM Secretary further notified that the award of marks, certificates to the students shall be done with due approval of the Government.
It may be noted that the Education Minister S Rajen had chaired a meeting on June 4 and discussed whether to hold or cancel the said examinations conducted by BOSEM and COHSEM.
The meeting was attended by the Education Commissioner, Chairmen of COHSEM and BOSEM, Secretaries, Examination controllers, Director of the Education Department along with representatives of student organisations and private school bodies/associations.
