Nagas stick to FA in observing Naga Plebiscite Day

Senapati, May 16 2024: The All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) organised a commemoration programme of Naga Plebiscite Day at Maram Union Conference Hall, Old Monday Market, Senapati, today.

The Naga Plebiscite was conducted on May 16, 1951 wherein 99.9 per cent of the Naga people voted for a sovereign Naga Nation.

Delivering the welcome address, ANSAM president Luikang Luckson remembered the Naga leaders who had made their supreme sacrifice for the cause of the Naga Nation.

He also expressed his opposition to the alleged divide and rule policy of the Indian and Burmese Government and for allegedly disintegrating Naga territories by creating artificial boundaries.

On this day, the ANSAM president called upon the Government of India to seek an honourable and acceptable solution to the Naga issue by honouring the Framework Agreement signed on 3rd August, 2015 in letter and spirit.

The student leader also called upon the international communities to support and recognize their unique history and 'sovereign rights' to initiate political actions and to resolve the conflict.

Luckson urgeed all Nagas to take a resolute stand and march forward together in unison to protect and safeguard the Naga people, its land, their identity and their right without fear and without reproach.

Speaking as the guest speaker, Kraibo Chawang, member of the Collective Leadership, NSCN, GPRN stated that there is no record of the Nagas being a part of India.

The Nagas fought 11 times against the invasion of the British when they first came to Kohima, reaffirming their stand against colonial rule, he said.

99.9 per cent of the Nagas voted in favour of a sovereign Naga Nation when the Naga Plebiscite was held in 1951, he added.

Saying that different Acts were implemented in Naga areas like Disturbed Area Act in 1955, AFSPA in 1958 and Naga Restricted Area of 1963 to suppress the Nagas, the NSCN leader continued that they are fed up with the game of the Government of India.

Saying that there is no point in holding the talk endlessly and meaninglessly without any result, he added that the Government of India seemingly doesn't want to work out a solution.

The senior NSCN leader further stated that the Agreed Position was signed to disown the Framework Agreement.

Chawang further claimed that the Government of India is trying to run away from the Framework Agreement which was signed in the presence of the Prime Minister and several Central leaders and officials.

United Naga Council, Naga Women's Union, Naga People's Movement for Human Rights-South, Joint Tribe Council and the Chandel Naga People's Organization shared their solidarity messages during the programme.

Units and subordinate bodies of the ANSAM, Tribe Hohos, district apex bodies, Naga Churches, politicians, social activists, intellectuals and well wishers attended the programme.
