Imphal, December 01 2015:
Strongly condemning the act of placing a grenade at the residential gate of Impact TV Editor-In-Chief and general secretary of Editors' Guild, Manipur, Yumnam Rupachandra, the Editors' Guild, Manipur(EGM)and the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) have decided to leave the editorial space of all the Imphal based daily newspapers blank on December 15 (issues to hit stands on December 16) and stage a dhama at Keishampat tomorrow from 10 am.
The grenade was planted as the Editors and newspaper houses had refused to publish a statement issued by a particular armed group.
According to a joint statement issued by the AMWJU president and EGM president, the joint meeting held today at Manipur Press Club de- cided that newspapers leave their editorial column blank in the Dec 16 editions to register protest against the threat to Editors and journalists by the group concerned.
It further decided that journalists will stay off work for a day and stage a sit-in at Keishampat tomorrow (December 16).Accordingly, local news channels ISTV, Impact TV and Image TV will not air news from 6 am of December 16 to 6 am of December 17 .
The scribes will stage a silent rally after the sit-in tomorrow and submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister and Dy CM, demanding protection of journalists, the statement said.
