'Mould students to shoulder responsibilities'

Governor La Ganesan has called for stimulating the comprehensive aspects of human intellectual potential in education to equip students with the values for shouldering social responsibilities.
He was speaking as the chief guest at the presentation ceremony of Governor's Award, 2021, 2022 and RK Sanatombi Devi Awards 2022 which was organized by the Managing Committee of the RK Sanatombi Devi Educational Institutions at Asha Jina Complex at North AOC today.
Saying that human resource development is vital to Nation's strength and progress and prosperity while education is its key element, the Governor contended that the purpose of education is to inculcate among the students the ability to think and apply the knowledge they acquire in their classrooms in solving social problems.
He continued that the responsibility of imparting knowledge and education rests with the teachers who are considered to be moral guardians, friends, philosophers and guides in moulding the character of the students.

"The students have to acquire fair knowledge, skills and education so as to enable them to shoulder the responsibilities to be reposed in them by the society.
It is therefore imperative for all of us to do everything possible to inspire, encourage and support the students so that they can play a meaningful role in shaping the Nation's future", Ganessan added.
The Governor went on to opine that education should not only emphasize access to global knowledge but should also uphold the richness of 'our culture' .
Education Minister Thounaojam Basantakumar was also present.
During the function, La Ganessan distributed the Governor's Award for the year 2021 and 2022 to Khumbongmayum Panshi of Class X-C and Evana Thangjam of Class X-A respectively.
He also distributed RK Sanatombi Devi Awards to Kangabam Tamphasana Chanu (Traffic police), Rajkumai Devi (Lecturer of CC Higher Secondary School), Kakchingtabam Sumati Devi (District Public Health Nursing Officer, CMO, Porompat, Imphal East), Gurumayum Shivchandra Sharma of Brahmapur Aribam Leikai, Imphal East (for being a cultural activist despite being a physically challenged person), Sanamacha Chanu Thokchom of Khongjom Chingtham Maning Leikai (boxing), Laitonjam Lanchenba of Singjamei Mathak Thokchom Leikai (swimming) and Hanjabam Langlentombi Devi of RK Sanatombi Devi Vidyalaya (co-curricular activities/sports) .
