Red carpet rolled out for Mizoram CM Lal Thanhawla bats for peace

Batting for peace and harmony in the region, Mizoram Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla has called upon all to contribute their mite to strengthen the peace accord between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM).
Lal Thanhawla said this while attending Luingaini festival as the chief guest today.
Hunphunwo (Chief) of Ukhrul HA Sarimaya invoked the ceremonial blessing and after the rituals, he distributed seeds to all the tribe leaders including the Chief Minister of Mizoram to mark the start of the festival.
Lal Thanhawla, speaking at the occasion, extended warm greetings and wished the people a bumper harvest.
The Mizoram Chief Minister said that he would extend all cooperation and support in resolving the Indo- Naga issue for peace to reign in the region.

The State Government recognized Luingaini in 1986 as celebration of the Naga community and the Ministry of Tourism followed suit in 1987, as a result of the relentless efforts of the UNC, said Lal Thanhawla and added that the efforts are highly commendable.
Apart from observing the seed sowing festival, Luingaini is also an instrument for promoting fraternity and mutual relationship with others.
He also mentioned the beautiful dance of the Kabui tribe and added that it is famous all over.
This is the identity of the people, he said and added that all should strive to promote the identity of the people.
The Chief Minister of the neighbouring State maintained that cultural exchange program with Mizoram should be encouraged to ensure better relationship between the Chin/Mizo tribe and the Nagas.
Lal Thanhawla also recalled the Mizo folk tale, which talks about the correlation between the people since time immemorial.
He stated that Nagas and Mizos have a cultural affinity, which should be promoted to strengthen the people to people relationship.
He also took note of the Tangkhul community's achievements in many field and mentioned the academicians, civil servants, politicians etc who have all excelled in their respective fields.
UNC president Gaidon Kamei in his speech extended gratitude to Lal Thanhawla for accepting the invitation to grace Luingaini.
The UNC in acknowledgement of his presence presented a Mithun to Lal Thanhawla, the highest Naga customary presentation.
Talking about the shared similarities, Gaidon talked about the Mizo Peace Accord of 1983 and added that since a final Naga accord is yet to be signed the co-operation of everyone is needed.
The southern Nagas have been subjugated by the communal Ibobi led Government, alleged Gaidon and added that this has been hindering a political settlement.
Naga Hoho president Chuba Ozukum who attended as the guest of honour expressed solidarity and urged all to uphold the spirit of true Nationalism of the Nagas.
The Chief Minister was accompanied by his better half, former Chief Secretary of Manipur and now Chairman of Mizoram Public Service Commission PC Lawmkunga, member secretary of Mizoram State Planning Board PC Thanga and YMA president.
Invitees from Churachandpur also attended.
