An electrical equipment workshop located at Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai has been destroyed irretrievably by an inferno this morning.
The workshop's proprietor Amakcham Dhananjoy said that properties worth around Rs one crore have been destroyed.
Altogether 15 transformers, four generator sets, eight motors, one crane, two computers, Rs 1.5 lakh in cash and many other machines were totally gutted by the fire.

Dhananjoy opined that the devastating inferno broke out from electric short circuit.
Stationery items kept in the canteen of Alpha BCI Memorial Academy which is located adjacent to the workshop were also destroyed together with some school uniforms.
Whatever things that could be salvaged cannot be used ever again, he added.
The raging inferno was finally brought under control by a team of 25 firemen equipped with fire tenders and water pump sets.
