Ukhrul still tense; more troops deployed

Ukhrul, July 14 2014:
Tension continues to loom large in Ukhrul with the State government moving in additional forces and intensifying security movement in the town even as the public resume their normal activities on Monday.
An official source said the State government has deployed additional security forces in the Ukhrul headquarters today.
In addition to the troops sent in on Sunday, the authorities had ordered in another three companies of forces to intensify security in the district that has of late witnessed deteriorating law and order.
A reliable report stated that as many as 600 armed personnel comprising Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and police Commandos are camping in the district, following the assassination of elected member of Ukhrul Autonomous District Council (ADC) Ngalangzar Malue on Saturday last.
On Monday, public resume their normal activities but were apprehensive as a posse of State forces in combative mood has been posted at every road junction.
Educational institutions, business establishments and government offices though perform their regular services.
Police had this morning reached out to the townsmen through PA system instructing the latter to resume their daily routine.
Following this, a confusion spread in Ukhrul as some people were ignorant in assuming that 144 CrPC Act has been revoked.
In a telephonic talk with this reporter, Deputy Commissioner of Ukhrul Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind however affirmed the continuing imposition of 144 CrPC Act in the district headquarters.
A highly placed source informed that the state Home department has issued strict instruction to the district administration on the worsening security situation in Ukhrul.
The State government's action on the assassination of Ukhrul ADC member so far is indicative that it's pinning blame on NSCN (IM).
However, the Naga armed group presently under Ceasefire
Agreement with the Government of India has denied its involvement, and no other militant organisation has come out owning responsibility for the Finch Corner incident.
