Imphal, June 14 2011:
After long years of dominance by girl students, boys did somewhat better in this year's High School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2011, the result of which was declared last Sunday night.
This time, among the 59 student toppers in the first 25 positions, there were in all 39 boys as against 20 girls.
In subject wise toppers too, there were more number of boys than girls this time around.
Of the 55 subject toppers, there were only 17 girls as against 38 boys.
Similarly, the pass percentage of the boys in the HSLC exam, 2011 is better than that of the girls.
While the pass percentage for girls was 66 percent only, boys recorded 75 percent.
In accordance to the Census report of Manipur, the number of female population is more than that of male population.
But the number of girl students who appeared in the exam is less than that of boys.
In the HSLC examination this time, out of 18,819 boy students enrolled for the exam, 18458 have appeared in it while out of 16,756 girl students enrolled, 16,485 have appeared in the exam.
On the other hand, among the 59 student toppers in the top 25 positions, there was only one position holder from the numerous Government schools.
It is again the same first Model School (Keishamthong High School), which the State Govt had established in the hope giving tough competition to the private schools that has come as the only saving grace of the Government.
Another interesting development that could be discerned from the result of HSLC exam this time is that contrary to the earlier trend of students from schools in Imphal area featuring prominently in the list of position holders, schools located far away from Imphal have produced many position holders.
In Bishnupur district, seven private schools including St Xavier School (Moirang), Bethel English School (Nambol Chingmang), Special Regular English School (Nambol), The Comprehensive School, Public School (Oinam), Public School (Ningthoukhong) and St George English High School have produced many position holders.
In Thoubal district, six other private schools namely Brilliant Academy (Thoubal Mela ground), RUDA Academy (Thoubal), Islamic Baby English School (Lilong), Sacred Heart School (Yairipok), Evergreen Flowers School (Thoubal) and Padma Ratna English School (Kakching) have achieved similar feat.
Among the schools in Senapati district, Don Bosco High School, Maram produced one position holder.
Though located little far from Imphal despite falling within the jurisdiction of Imphal West district, Little Master English School, Samurou continues to excel in the HSLC exam this time as well even as the fledging Khuman Maheikol, Mayang Imphal managed to secure slot for its students among the position holders.
In case of subject toppers, even though 28 students created a sort of a record by scoring 100 out of 100 marks in Mathematics, there are subject toppers who scored below 90 out of 100 marks this time.
In Language papers, the subject topper in Bengali got only 64 marks out of 100 while the topper in Computer Science secured only 71 out of 100 marks.
Subject toppers in Commerce, Elementary Hindi, Elementary Manipur, Tangkhul, Mizo and Hindi also secured below 90 out of 100 marks.
