Imphal, December 13 2019:
Manipur People Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (MANPAC) members along with Meira Paibis and other CSO members, organised a candlelight vigil in front of Kangla gate today evening as a solidarity to the ongoing protest against CAB in other parts of the North East region as well as honouring the people who have lost their lives in the protests.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the candlelight vigil, MANPAC convenor Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said that the people of Manipur and MANPAC offer solidarity and support the struggle of the people of Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya.

On the other hand, a large number of Manipur University students also organised a candle light protest in front of the university gate today evening and raised various slogans against CAB.
Speaking to media persons, a research scholar at Department of History, MU, Moirangthem Boby said that the passing of the Bill in the Parliament is a bleak development for the people of the North East, particularly for the indigenous people of the region.
As the Bill has now become an Act, the indigenous people will start to bear the brunt caused by uncontrolled influx of outsiders, he explained.
Lauding the extension of ILPS in Manipur, he however reasoned that ILPS will not be able to fully protect Manipur form the dangerous implications of CAB.
Pointing out that violence and death have engulfed Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya with the passing of the Bill, Boby also questioned the logic and the irony at organising Thabal Chongba and other festivities in Manipur.
Announcing that the students of MU support the people of Assam, Tripura and Meghalaya in the struggle against the CAB, he also expressed solidarity to the people who lost their lives in the protests.
During the candle light protest in front of the university gate, the students shouted slogans like 'No to CAB', 'Long Live Manipur', 'Long Live North East' etc.
