Imphal, November 13 2024: Expressing concern over the escalating violence in Manipur, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has submitted a memorandum to Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Guwahati today.

Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya was given the additional charge of Manipur in July this year.

In the memorandum, the Congress party urged the Governor to take up a concrete step to resolve the crisis in Manipur and to rescue the six individuals (three children and three women) who reportedly have been abducted by Kuki militants.

The five Congress MLAs viz former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, MPCC president K Meghachandra, Deputy CLP leader K Ranjit, party chief whip N Lokeshwor and Surjakumar Okram left Imphal for Guwahati in a flight at 8.30 am today as the Governor is at Guwahati.

Speaking to the media at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport before the departure, Ibobi accused the Centre of turning a blind eye to the escalating violence in Manipur.

No action has been taken up to stop the hostility though firing has been happening especially in foothill areas since the last few days, he continued.

People are dying, houses are being torched and yet there is no visible action from the Government to stop the violence, Ibobi added.

Saying that the Governor is also not stationed in Manipur during this difficult period, the former Chief Minister said that the Congress MLAs were going to Guwahati to meet the Governor and urge him to take up immediate action to rescue the abducted six persons (three children and three women) and work out a solution to the protracted crisis.

K Meghchandra said that Manipur not having a specific Governor of its own at the time of crisis is unfortunate.

Appealing to the Government to appoint a new Governor of the State as soon as possible, the Congress MLA said that they were compelled to fly to Guwahati as the Governor is in Assam.
