Imphal, September 13 2024:
Ambiguity and uncertainty still hang over the fate of Laishram Ningol Naorem Ongbi Sanjita after she fell victim to a clash between police and security forces on September 11 night.
After a tear gas shell fired by security personnel to disperse protesters landed just five metres away from the house of Sanjita on Wednesday night, she complained of suffocation and a burning sensation in the chest.
As she started vomiting and after condition grew worse, she was rushed to Advance Hospital and then shifted to RIMS Hospital.
The victim is being kept on ventilation in RIMS ICU since then.
According to Naorem Deepak, Sanjita's husband, the doctors attending to his wife have been making ambiguous statements.
Speaking to media persons at RIMS Hospital today after holding a meeting with representatives of the hospital, Naorem Deepak said that he has lost his unborn child while the fate of his wife remains unclear.
One of the RIMS Hospital representatives told him that they have given up (on Sanjita) yet they advised him to keep Sanjita on ventilation to see any kind of treatment for further treatment.
Saying that he is confused by the contradictory statements of the RIMS Hospital representatives, Deepak asked what he should make of the contradictory statements.
The worried husband also asked what kind of treatment doctors are looking forward to.
On the unborn dead child inside his wife, the doctors reportedly told Deepak that they have been working to remove the child within 24 hours.
He was also told that the dead child can be kept in the mother's womb for around 10 days.
Deepak said that he was told by the doctors that anything can happen to his wife if the ventilation is removed.
Although Sanjita's brain has been damaged, kidney and liver partially damaged, her heart is still functioning, Deepak said quoting reports from doctors.
The doctors also told him that a large volume of blood is present in Sanjita's brain.
"But I've lost hope as the doctors told me that anything can happen to my wife if the ventilation is removed", said the desperate and despondent husband.
According to Deepak, Sanjita has lost all kinds of sensitivity and she did no blink her eyes even when a flashlight was swayed just in front.
The colour of her eyes has also started changing.
He then urged the authorities concerned to tell the truth about the fate of his wife, whether she is still alive or dead.
He further announced that the case of his wife has been handed over to the people.
On the other hand, a large number of people from Naorem Leikai and surrounding localities gathered at RIMS Hospital this afternoon.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by RIMS Media Cell, said that an expert team has been constituted to assess the status of Laishram Ningol Naorem Ongbi Sanjita.
The expert team assessed the patient at 11 am today after consulting the families.
The team also took a CT scan of Sanjita's brain and it shows massive intracranial bleeding.
The patient has pulse rate of 110 per minute, BP 140/80 mm/Hg and SPO2 98 per cent.
The patient is on ventilation with Ionotropic support and is in critical condition.
RIMS Hospital is giving its best efforts with available facilities for the treatment of Sanjita, said the press release.
