PMT topper has her heart in the right place

With an enviable score of 360 marks out of 400, Sushma Laishram d/o Laishram Ibomcha and Seram Ningol Laishram Ongbi Guneshwori of Changangei Ucheckon Makha Leikai, has emerged the overall topper in the MBBS/BDS entrance examination, 2010-2011 conducted by the State Medical Directorate.
Talking to mediapersons, the 19-year old aspiring doctor said that her ultimate aim is to take up Cardiology and become a Cardiologist to dedicate herself in the services of the heart patients coming from poor family background.
On the choice of her subject, Sushma explained that treatment of heart related diseases is very costly today and not many people, especially those coming from poor families, can afford it.
"So, I would like to become a Cardiologist and work for the poor patients", she added.
Sushma passed her class XII examination under CBSE from Kendriya Vidyalaya in first division securing 82 percent marks.
She had studied in the Vidyalaya from class I .
Giving credit to her parents and tutors at Medical & Engineering Coaching Institute (MECI), Sushma said that she was confident of clearing the medical entrance test in the top three rank but never thought that she would emerge as the overall topper.

Sushma said that she would like to take up her medical studies outside Manipur, preferably Delhi.
''The reason why I would like to study outside Manipur is because the academic atmosphere here is affected most of the time on account of frequent bandhs, blockades and general strikes'', the topper added.
Echoing the same thing, her father L Ibomcha, who is the Head Clerk in PWD, Central Division, said that considering the impact of law and order situation in Manipur on the education of the students, he would also prefer his daughter should studying outside Manipur.
Guneshwori, mother of Sushma, said that her happiness over the success of her daughter is beyond comparison.
''After my daughter becomes a doctor, I would ensure that she looks after the poor patients'', Guneshwori, who is a housewife, assured.
On the other hand, another tutelage of MECI, Ningsem K H Tangkhul (19) s/o Silas KH Tangkhul and Ngamreila KH Tangkhul of Khangkhui Khullen, Ukhrul district, who secured a total of 328 to emerge topper in the merit list for Schedule Tribe, said that he would like to pursue his medical study in Paediatric line in Manipur itself.
His father is a Government school teacher and mother a simple housewife.
Ningshem had studied class XI and XII from Navodaya Vidyalaya, Ukhrul, after which he came to Imphal and stay in a private boys' hostel to prepare for the medical entrance test and attend tuition.
Altogether 4497 candidates have appeared in the Manipur MBBS/BDS entrance examination, 2011, the results of which were announced today.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the State Medical Directorate has informed that the select list as well as wait list, category-wise would be separately drawn up later on the basis of this results on merit when the total number of MBBS/BDS seats are made available to the Director.
The results of those candidates, who have not submitted complete testimonials/documents including marksheets of class XII (Sc) exams would be provisional and they should submit the same one or before June 22 .
