NUPI brings many to Delhi for Nupi Lan

Ningol United Progressive Initiative (NUPI), a Delhi-based women civil society group, observed Nupi Lan at Delhi University today with ace footballer Ngangom Bala and actress Soma Laishram taking part in the event.
NUPI, in a statement signed by its secretary Lieutenant Colonel (retired) L Girija, said that the event was organised in association with Manipuris in Kolkata women's wing; Indigenous Manipuri Association IMA, Guwahati women's wing; Mumbai Manipuri Association NUPI Lup; Meitei NUPI Lup Foundation, Pune; Manipuri Meitei Association, Bangalore (MMAB) women's wing and Takhel Leima Tengbang Lup, Agartala.
The function is an opportunity to learn more about Nupi Lan which demonstrated the resilience and courage of Manipuri women in challenging colonial rule and advocating for their rights.
A marathon race, patriotic recitation competition, patriotic song competition and a football match were held as part of the observance.
Addressing the gathering, Ngangom Bala, the first Indian female footballer to score 50 international goals, said that the women of Manipur, endowed with inherent compassion and talent, have consistently excelled on the international stage.
She said that she is proud of the State heritage and the remarkable women who represent Manipur.
"No matter where I travel, there's truly no place like Manipur.
I wish the younger generation would emulate the strength, compassion and unwavering love that define our women.
Once a Manipuri woman makes a decision, she is resolute," she said.
Saying that the future of Manipur, however, will be bleak without peace, Bala appealed to both the Centre and the State Government to prioritize the restoration of normalcy in Manipur.
Soma, on the other hand, said that Nupi Lan symbolises the courage and unity of Manipuri women who stood against colonial oppression and led the fight for justice and reform.
She also said that Manipuri women have shown remarkable resilience and strength even amid the ongoing crisis.
"Today, we honour the sacrifices of our emas whose strength defines the soul of Manipur", Soma said.
