Imphal, September 12 2019:
The Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) has asked the authority concerned to halt the construction work of Khongsang-Tamenglong road until details of the particular work are informed to the public at the earliest.
RNSOM representatives today conducted a field assessment of the road construction being undertaken by M/S Shivalaya Construction Company Pvt Ltd under NHIDCL.
Speaking to media persons in the course of the inspection trip, RNSOM president Daichui Gangmei said that M/S Shivalaya Construction Company Pvt Ltd started constructing the 38 Kms long road from the last week of June.
Apart from improving the road, it should also be expanded, he said.
RNSOM appreciates both the Central Government and the State for the road development work but no one has seen the layout or blueprint of the project which contains technical specifications like width, drainage, culvert, thickness etc, Daichui said.
He then asked the authority concerned to halt the road construction work until all the details and specifications are informed to the people of Tamenglong district.
Earlier, the road had been constructed and repaired at different points of time.
The road was taken over by BRO from PWD and recently PWD carried out a maintenance and restoration work on the same road.
Construction, repairing and maintenance works done earlier were not satisfactory.
Taking advantage of the innocence of hill people, the work agencies executed the road development works in a sloppy manner but RNSOM would not tolerate any sloppy nature this time, Daichui said.
Even though RNSOM went to the Imphal office of NHIDCL and sought details of the road development work, no proper response has been received till date, he said.
M/S Shivalaya Construction Company Pvt Ltd too has been paying little attention to RNSOM's concern, he decried.
He went on to ask how M/S Shivalaya Construction Company Pvt Ltd started the road development work when its details are not available at the Imphal office of NHIDCL.
Notably, M/S Shivalaya Construction Company Pvt Ltd has started the road expansion work after opening a camp at Sangrungpang village.
The amount sanctioned for the road development work is Rs 334 crore and M/S Shivalaya Construction Company Pvt Ltd won the work order by bidding at minus 15 per cent.
As such, there is a strong suspicion that the company may compromise on the quality of the work in order to recuperate the amount they lost by bidding below the sanctioned amount, he said.
He then asked NHIDCL to provide all the details and specifications of the road development work to the private firm.
