Delhi/Imphal, December 11 2019:
Echoing the protests in the North-East States against Citizenship Amendment Bill, DAMMS (Delhi Association of Manipur Muslims) strongly condemned the Bill tabled in the Rajya Sabha today.
Terming the introduction of the Bill despite the protests as 'suppressing and oppressing' the minority voices, DAMMS said that the unique culture and identity of the North East is being threatened by the Bill which is 'unconstitutional'.
Ultimately, as a consequence of this Bill, the indigenous communities in the North East may be 'completely wiped out' by bringing a stark demographic changes, it said.
BJP has been claiming that this Bill would extend safeguard to those Hindus, Sikhs, Parsis and Christians who are being oppressed and subjugated in the neighbouring countries of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.
However, the very Bill, if it becomes an Act, will compromise the security of its own people in the North East.
The Government should answer if they are able to safeguard women and girls, minorities, the poor and the farmers at home before they reach out to minorities of other countries, said DAMMS alleging that the intention of bringing the Bill is to establish a Hindu Nation based on homogeneous culture.
The Bill will result in polarization between Hindus and Muslims at the cost of the secular principles which was laid down by the founding fathers of the Constitution, it said also accusing the BJP of endorsing their own version of the infamous two Nations theory.
DAAMS is concerned with the effectiveness of the Inner Line Permit System.
With the population crisis in mainland India and the relatively low population density of the NE, the NE States remain the logical dumping ground for the refugees, it said.
The 'undemocratic and unconstitutional Bill' should be scrapped and it should never be upheld by any organization irrespective of which community or group they represent, said DAMMS.
