Thoubal commandos nab Pallel blast accused

Thoubal, November 10 2013: One PREPAK (Pro) cadre reportedly involved in the Pallel IED blast of November 6 has been apprehended by Thoubal commandos during a cordon and search operation at around 3.30 am today.

Briefing media persons at the conference hall of the Thoubal SP this afternoon, SDPO (Yairipok) K Meghachandra said that acting on a tip off that PREPAK (Pro)'s S/S Capt Thoudam Jiten s/o late Th Nabadweep of Maibam Leikai, Imphal West and S/S L/Cpl Angrung DS alias Arun Maring alias Khununglakpa (36) s/o Modun DS of Langol Khunou, Chandel district were loitering around in Langol Khunou area with IED, police conducted a cordon and search operation at the home of Arun Maring alias Angrung DS alias Khununglakpa.

As the police team cordoned off Khununglakpa's house, one unknown person was found inside the house.

On seeing the police team, he tried to run away, but he was overpowered by the police team.

On spot verification, the man identified himself as Modarsim DS alias Naphal (41) s/o Modun DS of Langol Khunou.

It turned out that Modarsim DS is elder brother of S/S L/Cpl Arun Maring alias Angrung DS and he too is an active member of PREPAK (Pro) .

Modarsim disclosed that he collected four IEDs from Khudei Khullen and brought them to his house about two months back under the command of his younger brother Angrung DS and Thoudam Jiten.

The IEDs were meant for targeting non-locals in Pallel area as a part of CorCom's attacks on non-locals, the said the SDPO.

About one back, three IEDs were taken away by his brother Angrung DS and they were exploded at Pallel on November 6 .

The remaining one IED was handed over to one Morungpham s/o late Korang of Minou so that the same can be used in another attack on non-locals in Pallel area.

Acting on the disclosure of Modarsim, the police team rushed to the Morungpham at Minou and searched his house.

One black polythene bag containing one IED weighing about 4 Kg and marked as 'MFD By: Dept of Defence, Red Army, PREPAK' along with a remote control device was found concealed inside a wooden box kept in the bed room of Morungpham as pointed by Modarsim DS alias Naphal at around 4.20 am.

Apart from arresting Modarsim DS alias Naphal, police have seized the IED found in the house of Morungpham, informed the SDPO.
