MU students rise in protest, confront cops

Students of Manipur University (MU) rose in protest demanding immediate cessation of India's proxy war today.
During the protest, at least 5/6 six students got injured as police fired stun bombs and tear gas shells at the protesting students at Kakwa to disperse them.
The exact figure of the students injured at Kakwa could not be ascertained as they got mingled with other students who also got injured during the protest at Khwairamband Keithel areas in the hospitals.
The MU students took out the protest from Obelisk Square of the varsity under the supervision of COCOMI's students front.
Even though police personnel took up security measures at MU main gate, the students blocked the road situated on the western side of the Traffic Island in front of MU main gate and raised different slogans such as "Stop the proxy war of India", "Withdraw the Central security force" and "Stop divide and rule policy" among others.
They also burnt the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh.
After burning the effigies, the students tried to take out a protest march but they were stopped by the police.
The rally was taken out towards the Kakwa side after the students reached a consensus with the police.
As the students were taking out the protest .
march, they found steel barricades being placed at Kakwa by a large number of Imphal West police.
The students confronted the police and tried to get past the barricade but the police stopped them by firing tear gas shells and mock bombs.
The protest continued till the evening even after some students were dispersed after the locals of Kakwa and adjacent places came out.
Speaking to the media, coordinator of COCOMI students front Ningthoujam Dhanakumar Meitei said that the students were protesting against the inaction of the Central Government to resolve the protracted crisis which is entering the 17th month.
Why are the leaders at New Delhi still silent when Kuki militants have even used drones and rockets to attack civilians ? What is the point of deploying all these Central security forces if they could not protect the lives and properties of people, he asked.
Dhanakumar also said former Director General of Assam Rifles Lt General PC Nair denying the deployment of drones and rockets by Kuki militants only exposes his support to the violent campaign of the Kukis.
Withdraw all the Central security forces, he said and added that people should also not cooperate with the Central forces.
He said that COCOMI's students' front will continue the protest at different schools and colleges.
Students in Bishnupur AC also took out a protest rally and later stormed the office of Moirang AC MLA Th Shanti today.
The rally was taken out by the students in association with different student organisations.
After taking out the rally, the students stormed the office of the MLA and submitted a memorandum to him.
Their demands include removal of Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh and DGP Rajiv Singh, stopping of the atrocity of the 'Kuki-Zo terrorists', cessation of proxy war and to not carry out a combing operation in valley district until the violence ends.
The students first gathered at Moirang Multipurpose Higher Secondary School and took out a rally towards Moirang Keithel.
From Moirang Keithel, the students headed towards Moirang Philem Leikai and stormed the office of Moirang AC MLA.
The students met with the MLA and handed him their memorandum.
The MLA assured to do whatever he can to fulfil the aspiration of the students.
