MP fumes over slow pace of bridge works

Lok Sabha MP of Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Dr RK Ranjan has expressed displeasure over the pace of construction work of two bridges, Barak and Makru, along National Highway 37.The MP, who visited the two sites yesterday to inspect the work progress, was unhappy on seeing the laxity of the ongoing construction works and said that the matter would be taken to the Parliament and the concerned Ministry.
Speaking on the sideline of the inspection drive, the MP maintained that the company undertaking the construction work of the two bridges committed to complete their work within two years in the year 2017 .
However even after completion of almost two years, construction of the two bridges are yet to complete, he said.

It was also detected that construction work of the National Highway-37 undertaken by National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) was incomplete.
The officials of NHIDCL, on being inquired by the MP, cited security reasons, rain, economic blockades and COVID-19 crisis as the factors behind the delay in completing their work.
Rejecting their views and saying that it was unreasonable factors, the MP said that NHIDCL's response was akin to utter disrespect to the people of Manipur and reminded the officials that the firm should bear the responsibility of the delay.
The delay in construction work of the National Highway-37, which is a lifeline and bear significant economic importance, is something that people cannot accept, said the MP while adding that matter will be taken up on the floor of the Parliament and the concerned Union Minister would be apprised about the situation.
Taking account of the report of Jiribam SP that there is a significant increase in traffic volume, the MP also stressed on the importance of setting up of a parking facility to help ease the hardships of commuters.
Saying that he will consult with the Chief Minister to establish a bus terminus along the highway, he also sought an official report from Jiribam district administration to ensure all inconveniences are addressed.
The MP also attended a tree plantation programme at Model High School today which will be utilised as a COVID Care Centre.
He also handed out 54 PPE to the Jiribam DC, W Malemnganba Chenglei for distribution to frontline workers.
