Imphal, August 09, 2013:
Reacting to the Ministry of Home Affairs' clarification about imminent loss of some areas of Manipur's territory because of the border fencing along Indo-Myanmar border in Moreh sector, MPP said that a Church built on Manipur's territory has been put on Myanmar's territory since the border fence was constructed.
Speaking to media persons today, MPP president N Sovakiran said that MPP condemns the Home Ministry's statement.
Showing video footage captured by a team of MPP members who visited the border area from July 31 to August 2, Sovakiran urged the Government of India for demarcation of the Indo- Myanmar according to international rules and norms.
He further slammed the Home Ministry for deploying Assam Rifles in place of Border Security Force which otherwise should be used in counter-insurgency operations.
MPP spokesman claimed that a Church built on Manipur's territory has gone 2000 metres inside Myanmar after the border fence was constructed and Manipuris are restricted from visiting the church.
MPP would take up the issue with National parties which are in league with the party, Sovakiran said.
Notably, there has been no proper demarcation of boundary till date between Myanmar and Manipur on Kabow Valley side.
