Manipur's tally climbs to 309 with 27 more positive

In keeping with the recent trend of double-digit spikes in the COVID-19 positive cases, 27 people tested positive today.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 22 samples were tested positive at JNIMS today.
They include 13 females and nine males.
Two of them belong to Chandel district while the other 20 belong to Kangpokpi district.
All of them came back from Delhi.
All the 20 residents of Kangpokpi district who tested positive for COVID-19 today were quarantined at Presidency College, Motbung, informed a source.

However, JNIMS Director Dr Th Bhimo said that the total number of samples which tested positive at JNIMS today was 27.The nine female residents of Noney district and the one male resident of Kamjong district who tested positive for COVID-19 at RIMS last night came back from Delhi, Mumbai, Kerala and Bengaluru recently.
Meanwhile, JNIMS authority has clarified that there was a communication gap regarding the report about the detection of 24 COVID-19 positive cases at JNIMS late last night.
They clarified that the 24 cases should be removed from the State's total tally.
As such, the State's total after removing the 24 cases stands at 309 and it includes 243 active cases.
Mizoram shoots up to 88 cases: Mizoram reported the highest cases of COVID-19 in a single day with 46 people testing positive for the disease on Tuesday, according to the Health Department, reports NNN.
With this, Mizoram has now 88 cases of COVID-19 of which 87 are active.
The State reported the first case of COVID-19 on March 24 .
The 46 cases reported on Tuesday are among the 459 samples tested in the past 24 hours.
Among the 46 cases, 31 are females.
Meanwhile, nudged by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Mizoram Government has geared up to consolidate and boost health infrastructure in the State.
Mizoram Health Minister Dr R Lalthangliana said that the State Government will set up a Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) soon.
According to the Health Minister, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has approved setting up a VRDL in the State.
At the moment, Mizoram has two RT-PCR machines to test samples for COVID-19 .
Both the RT-PCR machines are at the Zoram Medical College (ZMC) in Aizawl which has been designated as a COVID-19 hospital of Mizoram.
Dr Lalthangliana said that two more RT-PCR machines will be arriving in the State within this week.
It can be noted here that two Truenat machines have been installed at Lunglei Civil Hospital with approval of ICMR in order to test samples for COVID-19 .
According to the Health Minister, the Mizoram Government will also procure 50 ventilators and an automatic RNA extractor.
With the enhancement of measures in the health infrastructure, the Mizoram Government is hopeful of testing around 1000 samples for COVID-19 on a daily basis.
However, Mizoram has to wait for all the new machines to be fully installed.
