About the tense situation prevailing at Sora, N Biren claimed that the issue is being created by land encroachers as the fencing work was carried out after due compensation was given for the land acquired.
Saying that the State Government will take strict action against all people who encroached or built structures in reserve forest areas, water bodies, river banks and other Government lands illegally, the Chief Minister urged all concerned who have been allegedly creating a scene for demarcating Yaithibi Loukol areas to stop hindering Government projects before the law takes its course of actions.
The Chief Minister further stated that the Govern- ment will launch a year long eviction drive if the illegal encroachers fail to pay heed to the Government's appeal.
On infrastructure, N Biren maintained that there is a need to revamp many roads, specially at Imphal in view of the growing traffic and asked the people to cooperate if the Government decides to acquire land for expansion of some main roads.
All the affected landowners will be compensated suitably, he added.
Continuing that the Central Government led by BJP has been giving special attention to the North East region and the removal of AFSPA from certain areas is a validation of it, the Chief Minister maintained that the State Government is striving to remove the Act from all over Manipur.
The Chief Minister further stated that the Government will renovate the Sawombung to Sagolmang and Imphal-Saikul roads and start constructing Imphal East district hospital which was halted due to certain land issues.
Khurai AC MLA L Sushindro, BJP, Khundrakpam Mandal president M Debaratan, PDCC president K Joy and Lainingthou Puthiba Seva Committee president N Kerani also attended the programme.
