MU justifies panel composition

Manipur University authority did nothing wrong in including human rights activist Babloo Loitongbam in the Curriculam Committee for preparation of syllabus for the Six Months Certificate Course in Human Rights, said Dean of School of Social Science of the varsity, Prof Amar Yumnam.
Speaking to reporters in a press conference held at the A-Block of the University, Prof Amar Yumnam said, Babloo Loitongbam is not only a Human Rights activist who has more than 10 years experience in the field but also thoroughly understands the ground reality of various issues of the State.
Maintaining that Babloo has also got fellowship from Fullbright, London, which is one of the best institutes of Human Rights learning, Prof Amar Yumnam said that he was included in the panel acknowledging his experience, knowledge and qualification.
Clarifying on the critical views carried by some section of the media regarding inclusion of Babloo Loitongbam in the Curriculam Committee, the Dean said that Babloo was inducted into the Committee with permission from the higher authority and Councils of the varsity.
With regards to MSF's view, Prof Amar Yumnam said that the course is not exclusively meant for Post Graduate students but for all the students who have passed Class XII.
Although the course already had a syllabus, it was not a standard syllabus, he observed.
As such, the Professor said, the Committee was constituted in order to prepare a standard syllabus which will suit the needs of the time.
Taking part at the press conference, Vice-Chancellor Prof H Nandakumar Sharma refuted the allegation that he along with some MU officials had gone to Delhi after indulging in
various irregularities.
In this regard, he clarified that the team had been to Delhi to participate in a meeting which was held with officials of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development and UGC to deliberate on the development of Manipur University.
Regarding allegations levelled in connection with the recruitment of Research Associates, the Vice-Chancellor clarified that ample time could not be given to the candidates due to the sudden imposition of election code of conduct of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
