Imphal, September 08 2011:
The family members of Gurumayum Jiteshwar Sharma alias GM Changjou alias Gypsy, the assistant publicity secretary of the proscribed RPF, whose whereabouts remain unknown after his arrest by security forces from Dimapur on August 18, have filed a case in the Gauhati High Court pleading for directive to all concerned for disclosing his whereabouts.
On the other hand, with expiry of the deadline served to the Government of Manipur for disclosing whereabouts of Jiteshwar, the 'JAC against the enforced disappearance and arbitrary detention Gurumayum Jiteshwar Sharma alias GM Changjou alias Gypsy of Nagamapal Singjubung Leirak' has announced its decision of taking recourse to intense agitations from tomorrow.
Addressing a press conference at Manipur Press Club here today, spokesperson of the JAC Kapur informed that after an FIR had been lodged with the Nagaland police, Gurumayum Ongbi Radha, mother of Jiteshwar and Gurumayum Ongbi Sujeta, wife of Jiteshwar, jointly filed a writ petition in the Gauhati High Court on September 1 .
The hearing of the case will be on September 29 .
Kapur lamented that the State police department has not taken up any step to find out where Jiteshwar is even though the DGP of Manipur is aware about the SMS send by Jiteshwar to his wife informing of his arrest by Assam Rifles and suspected NSCN (IM) cadres.
Kapur said that the JAC is not requesting for the release of Jiteshwar but for locating his whereabouts.
If the State Government cannot do even this, then it is very unfortunate and would invite wrath of the people.
Kapur informed that in addition to submitting a memorandum to the Government, a seven-member delegation of JAC had called on Deputy Chief Minister Th Debendra in the morning of September 7.During the meeting, the Deputy Chief Minister gave the assurance of doing the needful.
As a result, the JAC reviewed its earlier stand and decided to take recourse to democratic agitation.
However, if the Government fails to reveal the whereabouts of Jiteshwar by 6 pm tomorrow, the JAC would be constrained to intensify its agitations, Kapur warned.
Convenor of the JAC S Tamphamani, who was also present during the press conference appealed to all the politicians for support in finding out the whereabouts of Jiteshwar.
