Two killed, nine injured as...Landslide sweeps away passenger car in CCpur

CCpur, July 08 2022:
At least two from Sipuikawn village were killed and as many as ten others including an infant injured as a Bolero Camper, they were travelling in was hit by a landslide near Santing (L) village along the Tipaimukh Road early today.
Accounts from the local people said a modified Bolero Pick-up carrying 12 people was swept down at least 300 feet below the road by the mudslide that hit their vehicle at about 6.50 am.
One woman identified as Lalbuotsaih, 49 d/o Sangkhum of Sipuikawn village, Pherzawl district was retrieved dead by villagers and other passenger vehicles that mounted a rescue operation as soon as they learnt about the mishap.
All other passengers including a minor were retrieved alive though they suffered varying degree of injuries.
One of them identified as Lalnunziri, from Sipuikawn village too succumbed to her injuries in the evening at the District Hospital Churachandpur.

The injured were initially taken to the Assam Rifles camp at Aina where they received first-aid.
At least 4 ambulances were dispatched to take them to District Hospital Churachandpur for further treatment. Bolero pick-ups are modified to transport passengers and goods to the interior areas.
They also often halt a night on the way due to exhaustive nature of travel and for safety.
The vehicle that was washed away by the mudslide today started the journey yesterday from Sipuikawn village, located about 241 kms from Churachandpur hqtrs.
About mid-way at Leijangphai (120 Kms) they halted the night and resumed their journey early today.
After travelling for about 22 kms today the journey was halted by a falling tree.
As was the norm, the driver and his helper identified as Lalngaituo and Lalrosiem disembarked from the vehicle and cleared the road.
As they again embarked and ignited the vehicle to resume their journey, the land above them crumbled and slid, sweeping the vehicle and all those on-board hundreds of feet below the road, it added.
