1 held with IEDs, Moreh tragedy averted

A major tragedy was averted at Moreh today with the arrest of one person along with two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from his possession.
The person arrested has been identified as Sholen Haokip alias Lelin, s/o Helmang Haokip and he is a resident of Mission Veng, Moreh.
He was found carrying two battery-fitted IEDs in his backpack by a combined team of 5 Assam Rifles and Moreh police from along Moreh bypass road near Chikim village at around 8 am.
It is reported that Sholen Haokip was arrested by the security forces during the follow up actions of the case pertaining to the assault of the two Muslim men by Kuki militants at Moreh yesterday.
Sholen Haokip has been handed over to Moreh police station along with the seized explosives.

Meanwhile, the Tata tipper truck captured by Kuki militants yesterday from the two Muslim men at Moreh was found set on fire at a particular place along the bypass road of the border town.
Moreh has been witnessing fierce attacks on security forces and civilians alike since the violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 last year and one of the high profile cases which took place at the border town was the killing of Moreh SDPO and the gunning down of two IRB personnel.
While Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anand Singh was shot dead at Moreh on October 31, 2023, two other State security personnel were gunned down at the border town on January 17, 2024 .
