Churachandpur, Chandel get NERCOMP sop

Phase-III of the North East Region Com-munity Resource management Programme (NERCOMP), a project funded by the North Eastern Council, has been for-mally launched in Churachandpur and Chandel districts with the official launch function held today at MFDC auditorium, Palace Compound.
The launching function was attended by the DONER Minister Paban Singh Ghato-war and Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as the chief guest and president respectively with Lok Sabha MP Thangso Baite, Deputy CM Gaikhan-gam, Health Minister Phung- zathang Tonsing and Teng-noupal AC MLA D Korung- thang present at the occasion as the guests of honour.
Apart from the two districts of Manipur the project's Phase-III also covers Chirap, Changlang and Longdi districts of Arunachal Pradesh.

The project that aims to alleviating economy of people in rural areas by enhancing income generation source was first launched in 2008 with Ukhrul district covered under the first phase followed by Senapati district's inclusion in the second phase launched in July, 2010 .
Paban Singh Ghatowar, who also launched the project in Arunachal Pradesh, said at the MFDC function that the Government of India is firmly committed to mitigate problems endured by the econo- mically deprived section of the society.
Out of the total amount of Rs 540 crore earmarked for Phase-III of the project, Ma-nipur's share will be Rs 216 crore, the Doner Minister exu-ded confidence that people in the remote village would reap the benefit by adopting professions of their choice.
Delivering the presidential address, Chief Minister Ibobi stating that NERCOMP project in Ukhrul and Sena-pati district was highly suc- cessful also expressed that 66 percent of the household out of 86 percent covered by the project making economic gain is an indication of the pro-ject's merit.
He also attributed success of the project in the two districts to enthusiastic involve- ment and effort of the women beneficiaries.
Apart from Doner Secretary UK Sangma and NERCOMP Chairman Amei-sing Luikham, top officials of the State including Chief Secretary PC Lawmkunga and Additional Chief Secretary RR Rashmi were also present at the occasion.
