Kamalbabu's case apprised to UN body

The case of Laishram Kamalbabu who disappeared without any trace after he went inside 57th Mountain Division Headquarters, Leimakhong on November 25, 2024 has been apprised to the United Nations Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) president Laifungbam Debabrata Roy said that Laishram Kamalbabu from Gosaipur, Cachar but staying at Loitang Khunou worked as a supervisor for construction works inside the heavily fortified military station.
As usual, he went to the military station for his works in the morning of November 25 but he disappeared without any trace.
Apart from registering an FIR in connection with the disappearance of Kamalbabu, both the Prime Minister of India and the State's Chief Minister have been repeatedly approached to find his whereabouts but there has been no satisfactory answer till date, Debabrata said.
With due approval of his family, a representation was sent to the Geneva-based UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearances (WGEID) on December 6, 2024 seeking the UN's attention to the case of Kamalbabu, the CORE president said.
He said they received an immediate reply from WGEID Secretariat, Geneva informing that WGEID would ask the State to search for the missing man and give information to them (WGEID) .
It also said that the case of Laishram Kamalbabu should be kept open until his body is found either alive or dead, Debabrata added.
