Imphal, December 07 2012:
The identity of the woman who was found dead with her slit throat at Langol Hills on November 30 has been established after the body was disposed off as an unclaimed body a few days back.
The woman has been identified as one Lourembam (O) Memchoubi alias Mema (48) w/o Nilabir of Haobam Marak Lourembam Leikai in Imphal West district.
Relatives of the deceased claimed the body after the description of the clothes and belongings matched that of Memchoubi.
Police have detained the husband of Memchoubi for interrogation.
Meanwhile, members of Southern Imphal Cultural Organisation (SICO) and Meira Paibi of Lourembam Leikai staged a sit in protest against the killing of Memchoubi at SICO Ground today.
According to L Dinachandra, general secretary of SICO, Memchoubi left her home for Moreh on November 29 around noon.

Memchoubi was trading in Moreh items in the locality while her husband is a lumberman.
There were occasions when Memchoubi used to stay with her married daughter who is living at Singjamei or sometimes at Moreh.
As such, when she did not return home the last time, locals presumed that she might be staying at Singjamei or Moreh due to the bandh that was enforced along Imphal-Moreh stretch of NH-2 .
Being suspicious on her delayed return, her parental home was contacted.
But she was not there.
Dinachandra said Memchoubi was heard twice answering "I'm coming" on the phone before she left her house on the fateful day.
After that call, several attempts by her daughter to contact through phone failed as the phone was already in a switch off mode.
The protesters today demanded the authority concerned to bring justice in the case.
It may be mentioned that dead body of a woman was found along Langol-Lamdeng road in the morning of November 30.The police had made wide publicity of the matter through local media though no response was received.
The dead body was disposed off after conducting a post mortem examination at RIMS on December 4 .
A case has been registered at Lamphel PS and investigation is on the matter.
