Imphal, September 07 2021:
Rural Development and Pancha-yati Raj Minister Thongam Biswajit launched a sanitary napkin called 'Chanura Pad' under 'My Pad, My Right' scheme of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) at an event held in Thongju Waikhom Khongnang.
Speaking at the event, Th Biswajit said it was a matter of pride for Thongju AC that it was the first product from the State under the scheme launched by Union Minister Smriti Irani and that too from LEICHAL SHG which is formed under Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission (MSRLM).
He added that a couple of years back, many SHGs were formed at various localities (Leikais) but the loans provided were not utilised properly and lack of discipline and poor financial management put an end to further loans from banks.
However, SHGs formed under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihood Mission (DAY-NRLM) or MSRLM are becoming more important.

DAY-NRLM is a central scheme that trains women on a particular trade to create sustainable means of livelihood.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also announced that funds should be given to SHG and VLF under DAY-NRLM or State Rural Livelihood Missions.
Under this scheme, the State Government is planning to give financial assistance of Rs 40,000 to members of SHG as loan, he added.
Th Biswajit appealed to the SHGs to apply for loan and also inculcate the habit of repaying loans.
The Minister also announced a financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh to LEICHAL SHG to upgrade the machine used in manufacturing the Chanura Pad.
Speaking at the programme, M Srinivas Rao, general manager NABARD, Imphal said 'My Pad, My Right' is a scheme that has been undertaken in 35 districts of the country.
The raw material and the machine used in manufacture of Chanura Pad is provided by NABARD, he added.
Samarendu Samal, chairman, Manipur Rural Bank, said as a banker, the vision of MRB is focused on funding and repayment and if the loans provided to SHGs are able to create a sustainable livelihood to members of SHGs, then it is considered a success.
