Land slide isolates Kamjong villages

More than 30 villages under Kamjong Block have been cut off from the rest of the district following a massive landslide near Nepali Kutti on July 30.Electricity and water supply have been completely cut off at these villages for about a week now.
The villagers at present are facing acute shortage of essential commodities.
Excavator and jawans of the 44 Assam Rifles along with villagers have been engaged in construction of an alternate road which can enable passage of light vehicles and pedestrians.
Completion of the said road will take at least a week, but it also depends on the weather condition of the area, an official in-charge of BRO stated.
Deputy Commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind, SDO Kamjong, OC 84 BRO and Kamjong ADC members visited the landslide area to assess the situation today.
The DC, Ukhrul assured extension of all possible help to reconnect the road at the earliest.

Chassad village secretary Khaikao said prices of essential commodities have shot up after the land slide on July 30 .
There is an added fear of an outbreak of epidemic anytime as the villagers rely on running water available in the area that might be contaminated, he said.
Journalist turned politician and a social worker Pamreisho Shimray who visited the area and interacted with the villagers today extended financial assistance to Kamjong villagers.
He also assured all possible assistance in reconnecting the road at the earliest.
A similar landslide at Ukhrul - Shimtang has also blocked the entire road with huge chunks of rock and mud.
Meanwhile, at Langdang and Jessami villages paddy fields have been flooded due to heavy rains.
More landslides are reported at Maka, Chahong and Grihang village.
The Phungyar town Association Secretary Redemption expressed gratitude to the Local MLA Victor Keishing for extending assistance in time of their needs.
