Safety of students in Bangladesh point raised

Imphal, August 06 2024: Amid the turmoil in Bangladesh after ouster of its Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Opposition MLA O Surjakumar enquired the Government about its initiatives taken up for safety and security of Manipuri students in the neighbouring country.

During the Zero Hour of today's Assembly session, MLA O Surjakumar sought the attention of the Chief Minister and asked if the Government has taken up any steps to ensure safety and security of the Manipuri students pursuing MBBS in Bangladesh.

He enquired if there has been any step taken up to rescue and bring back the students from the country.

The MLA further asked if the Government has taken up any precautionary measures to face possible infiltration of people from Bangladesh amid the turmoil.

During the Zero Hour, Opposition MLA K Ranjit Singh sought the attention of the Chief Minister and urged his Government to effect a series of announcements it made concerning State security forces.

Even though Chief Minister N Biren Singh had announced an increment of Rs 500 ration money for MR and IRB personnel, it has not been converted into action, said MLA K Ranjit.

The Village Defence Force (VDF) personnel have asked the Government to clarify on an increment in the honorarium it announced.

They have even warned the Government to lay down arms starting August 9 if it doesn't clarify on the issue, he said.

All the people understand the service of the State security forces and challenges they face during the current conflict in the State.

Amid this, the Government is yet to give an allowance of Rs 3,000 it announced earlier.

All the allowances and increments in honorarium announced must be given to the State security forces, otherwise it may affect their morale, he said.
