Imphal, February 06 2025:
The Mangani Leihun ceremony of KYKL/MYL's Private Moirangthem Sushil alias Athouba was performed today at Sugnu, Kakching district.
KYKL has already reported that Private Sushil alias Athouba (21) s/o M Kiran and Memcha Leima of Sugnu Awang Leikai Ward No 1 achieved martyrdom in a battle fought as a part of the liberation movement at Kamjong-Myanmar border in the last week of January 2025 .
The Mangani Leihun ceremony of Sushil alias Athouba was solemnised as per the rites and customs of Sanamahism at Ching-Tam community hall near Sugnu Keithel.
As a part of the Mangani Leihun ceremony, a large number of people took out a religious procession.
The people shouted many slogans like "Hail liberation movement", "Hail Meeyamgi Yawol Lanmee Athouba", "Hail Manipur" etc.
The crowd was so huge that all of them could not be accommodated in the community hall.
As such, the crowd gathered at the nearby ground instead.
There, people paid floral tributes to the photograph of Sushil alias Athouba.
Sugnu Apunba Meira Paibi Lup secretary Aheibam Chanthoisana Chanu said that young Athouba belonged to a poor family of a rickshaw puller while his mother is a casual worker.
Athouba was the second of three brothers born to his parents.
The Meitei villages of Sugnu came under fierce attack from Kuki terrorists in February 2024 and it lasted for almost one week.
Soon after the attack, Sushil left home and it was only after his death that people of the locality came to know he had joined a revolutionary organisation, Chanthoisana said.
Had there been no aggression from Kukis, Sushil alias Athoiba would not have left home, she said.
The Government's act of arresting village volunteers is a matter of grave concern.
The Government should not arrest village volunteers until it can give a convincing answer to the question of who gave birth to village volunteers, she said.
On the other hand, Kakching district police took up stringent security measures during the Mangani Leihun hours.
