Imphal, December 05 2024:
Representatives of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the missing case of Laishram Kamal babu met chief minister N Biren at the latter's office on Thursday and demanded that the missing man be rescued immediately and handed over to his family.
After meeting the CM, spokesperson Moirangthem Ibopishak told media persons at Manipur Press Club that the JAC along with the family of missing Ka-malbabu decided to meet the chief minister after Army's apparent reluctance to take responsibility to locate whereabouts of the missing man and always tried to shift the case to state force.
According to Ibopishak, Sekmai MLA H Dingo facilitated the meeting between chief minister N Biren and representatives of the JAC and family members of Kamalbabu.
During the meeting, the JAC leaders along with Ka-malbabu's wife mounted pressure on the chief minister to establish the whereabouts of Kamalbabu and hand him over to family safe and sound.
The chief minister was also urged to fulfil all the demands raised by the JAC regarding Kamalbabu's missing at the earliest, he said.
Ibopishak further told media persons that Kamalbabu went missing from inside the complex of 57th Mountain Division of Indian Army at Leimakhong on November 25.However, both the army and state government remained clueless about Kamalbabu's whereabouts even after 10 days.
Kamalbabu worked inside the military complex after the army assured safety and security.
Accordingly, the army cannot take the missing case lightly but shoulder full responsibility for Kamalbabu, he asserted.
He further disclosed that the JAC will apprise the matter to Union defence minister and is fully prepared to hold protest demonstration at New Delhi and for which, he urged people of Manipur to extend support to the JAC.
Meanwhile, demanding the safe release of Laishram Kamalbabu, a sit-in protest was staged at Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai under the aegis of New Development Organisation, Singjamei, on Thursday.
Kamalbabu, a resident of Khurkhul village in Imphal West but originally from Assam's Cachar district, was last seen leaving home on November 25 to work inside the 57th Mountain Division Army camp, Leimakhong.
Speaking on the sidelines, one Oinam Ibochouba expressed serious concern Kamalbabu's whereabouts remain unknown since missing from the army camp, while insisting that army take full responsibility to locate Kamalbabu and ensure his safe release.
