Wangoi, Saitu, Singngat to join by-polls on Nov 7

Wangoi AC, Saitu AC and Singngat AC will go to by-polls together with Wangjing-Tentha AC and Lilong AC on November 7.After the election schedule was announced by the Election Commission of India, the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur issued a press release today.
Due notification for the by-polls would be issued on October 10 while October 20 has been fixed as the last date for submission of nomination papers.
Scrutiny would be done on October 21 while candidates are allowed to withdraw their nomination papers till October 23.Voting would be held on November 7 and counting of votes would be on November 10.Nonetheless, model code of conduct has already come into effect with the announcement of the election schedule.
The electoral roll published on January 1 this year would be used for the by-election where EVMs and VVPAT machines would be used.
Apart from voter cards, 11 other identification cards viz; Aadhaar card, PAN card, post office pass book, health insurance smart card, driving licence, passport, service identity card, smart card issued by RGI, pension document with photograph and identity cards issued by MPs/MLAs/MLCs would be applicable in the by-election.
There are 27,870 voters in Wangoi AC, 32,398 voters in Lilong AC, 31,213 in Wangjing-Tentha AC, 39,890 in Saitu and 26,287 in Singngat AC.
These Assembly segments have 41, 49, 43, 69 and 52 polling stations respectively.
There are 1961 voters above 80 years, 692 voters with disabilities and eight third gender voters in the five Assembly segments.
There will be health nodal officers at the State, district and Constituency levels to look after COVID-19 related matters.
Division of voters in each polling station would be reduced from 1500 to 1000.All polling stations would be sanitised one day ahead of the polling day and thermal scanners would be placed at the entrance of all polling stations to check body temperature of electors.
If one's body temperature is higher than the scale prescribed by the Government, he/she would be scanned twice.
If there is no change, they would be given tokens or certificates which would enable them cast votes in the closing hour of polling.
People being quarantined due to infection by COVID-19 would also be allowed to vote at their respective polling stations in the closing hours.
Persons with disabilities, senior citizens above 80 years, employees of essential services and people who are COVID-19 positive/suspects may avail postal ballots, according to the guidelines issued by the ECI.
