Teachers bask under the limelight on their day

Dedicated teachers and meritorious students were honoured at the occasion of Teachers' Day Celebration, 2011 organised by the State Level Teachers' Day Celebration Committee, Directorate of Education (S) at its Lamphelpat office complex here today.
In all, 12 selected teachers have been honoured with the State Teacher Awards, 2011 at the occasion.
They are headmistress of Gandhi Memorial Govt High School Lhingnu Touthang, Principal of Jiribam Higher Secondary School S Maniton Singh, lecturer in Chaoyaima Higher Secondary School S Chaoba Singh, lecturer in Tamphasana Higher Secondary School O Ananda Singh, primary teacher in Heinoukhongnembi Primary School Soubam Sobita Devi, primary teacher in Langthabal Phuramakhong Primary School Tokpam Yaipi Chanu, assistant teacher in Khongdei Ngawar School (SV) S Khai, arts graduate teacher in Sekmai Khunou Khangjeibung Primary School Angom Maipakpi Devi, arts graduate teacher in Lalpani High School Md Abdul Hashim, science graduate teacher in Model High School Anan Rumthao, arts graduate teacher in Thambalkhong Junior High School Ch Nishikanta Singh and Hindi graduate teacher in Azad High School S Sanatomba Sharma.
The award conferred on the teachers include a cash reward of Rs 5000, a certificate and a shawl each.
Meritorious students were also honoured with presentation of one laptop each as reward at the occasion.
They are Vijaya Sanasam of TG Higher Secondary School, who secured Ist position in Higher Secondary Examination, 2011 in Arts Stream; Khumanthem Saya of TG Higher Secondary School, who secured 5th position in Higher Secondary Examination, 2011 in Arts Stream; Devica Mangsatabam of TG Higher Secondary School, who secured 8th position in Higher Secondary Examination, 2011 in Arts stream; Akoijam Subash Singh of CC Higher Secondary School, who secured 14th position and Hatneihoi Haokip of Moreh Govt Higher Secondary, who secured 17th position in the same examination.
Bhasker Thingujam of CC Higher Secondary School, who secured 3rd position in the Higher Secondary Examination, 2011 in Commerce stream and Chingakham Rajendrakumar Singh, also of CC Higher Secondary School, who secured 5th position in the same examination, and Prakash Khundrakpam of Keishamthong Model High School who secured 8th position in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination, 2011 were also honoured at the function.
Principal Secretary in-charge of Education (School) Dr J Suresh Babu and Chairman of PDA Dr Kh Loken were respectively chief guest and president of the function which was also attended by Director of Education Department W Rajen and Padmashree awardee RK Khalajit as guests of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Suresh Babu observed that quality education can be brought about only when there is good relation between the teachers and the students.
The teachers should dedicate themselves to the service of teaching the students and the students in turned should pay attention to their teachers, he added.
In his presidential address, Dr Kh Loken pointed out that now we are living in a world where there is competition in every field.
So, the students should work hard to face these competitions if they want to be successful in life.
But without proper education, students would not be able to face any of these competitions.
Teachers have also an important role to play in guiding the students, he noted.
