New twist to killing of housewife, finger pointed at sibling
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, June 05 2011: Though it was claimed that Samadram ningol Moirangthem (O) Rajeshwari of Seijang Mayai Leikai was killed by her husband Ibomcha for concealing her health status despite being HIV positive, local Meira Paibis and local club volunteers have been strongly contending that Rajeshwari was killed by her younger brother.

Ibomcha, currently lodged in the custody of Lamlai police station, said that Rajeshwari never disclosed that she was HIV positive though they have been married for four years.

Ibomcha originally belonged to Yaingangpokpi and he has five children from his first marriage.

Rajeshwari was also married to another man and she had two children from her first marriage.

Her first husband died due to infection by HIV.

After marriage, Ibomcha and Rajeshwari stayed together at the latter's parental home at Seijang.

The house of Rajeshwari and Ibomcha razed to the ground

Ibomcha said that he and Rajeshwari had a child but the child died when it was just four months old.

He said that he never knew Rajeshwari was HIV positive though he had some suspicion.

"One day I found a prescription note for medical treatment.

As I could not read myself, I asked a man of the neighbourhood to read it.

It was only then I came to know that Rajeshwari was HIV positive", Ibomcha said.

Saying that he has certain apprehensions if he too is HIV positive, Ibomcha said that his pent up anger exploded on thinking about the small children in the event of death of both Rajeshwari and himself due to HIV.

"Rajeshwari and I had a heated quarrel last Thursday night, and in a fit of rage, I strangulated and killed her", Ibomcha admitted.

"Had I not been drunk, I would not have had the courage to strangulate her", he added.

However, local Meira Paibis of Seijang Mayai Leikai and volunteers of Seijang Progressive Youth Club contended that it was Rajeshwari's younger brother Milan who killed her.

They said that they often saw Milan beating and abusing his sister in his craze for the plot of land occupied by his sister and brother-in-law.

Ibomcha had gone to sleep after having dinner last Thursday night.

Taking advantage of the situation where his brother-in-law was fast sleep, tired as he was after many days of driving, Milan hung and killed his sister with a rope, the local Meira Paibis said.

Ibomcha is a truck driver by profession.

They also questioned why Milan did not show any rage against Ibomcha for killing his sister if Ibomcha really killed Rajeshwari.

Milan killed his sister to take over the land occupied by Rajeshwari and Ibomcha, they maintained.

They further demanded that Milan should be booked and given befitting punishment at the earliest.
