Imphal, October 04 2015:
Presence of vectors which carry dengue-causing virus at Rengkai area of Churachandpur district was detected last year in the course of a survey conducted by the Health Department but the department could not take up adequate precautionary measures because of protracted public unrest in the district, said State Malaria Officer Dr Jamkhokam.
Dr Jamkhokam told The Sangai Express that Aedes mosquitoes which transmit Dengue virus were detected in December last year in the course of a survey and the department was on guard against any possible outbreak of Dengue.
Dengue outbreak in Churachandpur district was first reported in 2010.Since then the department was organising a series of awareness programmes about the disease.
However, on account of the protracted public unrest in Churachandpur district, adequate precautionary measures could not be taken up this time.
Nonetheless, all possible measures are being initiated to check further transmission of Dengue virus, claimed Dr Jamkhokam.
Fogging exercise has begun at Rengkai area from today.
Door to door survey to detect presence of Aedes mosquitoes would be started from tomorrow.
Public awareness programmes would also be organised simultaneously.
One person infected with Dengue has been undergoing treatment in critical condition at JNIMS.
All the blood samples sent yesterday for necessary laboratory test have not been tested as today is a holiday being Sunday.
The individual from Bishnupur who has tested positive for Dengue contracted the disease at Delhi, said the State Malaria Officer.
Another high-ranking official of the Health Department cautioned all the people to avoid mosquito bites as far as possible as there is a strong possibility of Aedes mosquitoes spreading to other parts of the State.
Even though no fogging exercise could be carried out at Churachandpur yesterday as the fogging machines were out of order, two fogging machines have been repaired today.
