Senapati, January 04 2025:
The Naga People's Organisation (NPO) Senapati has appealed to CoTU of Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi to refrain from imposing constant and sudden blockades on National Highway-2.In a press release issued by its information & publicity secretary, the NPO stated that it does not object CoTU's right to protest against the State or Central Government's inaction and injustice.
However, any measures adopted by CoTU must not destabilize the wellbeing of the Nagas in Senapati district, NPO stated.
The NPO urged CoTU to protect the rights and safety of the Naga community and not to disrupt normal flow of traffic on NH-2 .
It has been observed that frequent and sudden blockades and shutdowns imposed by CoTU have caused immense hardships to the Nagas of Senapati district who depend on this vital route as the only lifeline.
The NPO as a social organization understands the complexity and sensitivity of the ongoing conflict in the State.
However, it is imperative to maintain NH-2 as a 'safe zone' for free movement of goods, services and passengers, it said.
Pointing out that despite heavy presence of State and Central forces on NH-2, the situation continues to be unsafe for free movement of passengers and goods carriers, the NPO has also sought urgent attention of the State and the Central Govts.
"With the advent of New Year, NPO looks forward to cooperative approach to resolve these issues and appeals CoTU to act responsibly and considerately to ensure peaceful coexistence", the NPO added.
