JAC moves ahead with 24 hr bandh
Source: The Sangai Express

Imphal, October 03 2021: The JAC Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai has decided to go ahead with the 24 hour bandh even as the JAC called on Chief Minister N Biren this evening on the latter's invitation at CM Bungalow.

During the meeting, the JAC reiterated its charter of demands including the suspension of the then Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Tamenglong district.

The JAC maintained that the incident took place because of their negligence and inefficiency and expressed suspicion that they might have facilitated the crime.

The Chief Minister, on the other hand, stated that the abduction of Athuan Abonmai was not informed to him by the DC and SP on time.

The fact itself is one of the valid grounds which is enough to suspect collusion and conspiracy of the DC and SP with the perpetrators which warrant their immediate suspension if not termination, said the Chief Minister.

The meeting ended with the assurance from the Chief Minister that he will do the needful at the earliest.

The JAC, however, is committed to go ahead with the imposition of the 24 hours Statewide total shutdown from October 3 midnight and to follow other democratic forms of protest until the final settlement is arrived and justice is delivered.

In the meantime, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has decided to cancel all meetings and close its office tomorrow to show solidarity to the call of JAC Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai.

MPCC spokesperson Ningombam Bupenda Meitei briefed media persons in this regard at Congress Bhavan this evening.

Addressing the media, Bupenda Meitei stated that the Congress party extends solidarity to the 24 hours shutdown called from today's midnight.

He also stated that the party had decided to close the MPCC office and cancel all the official and election related meetings which were scheduled to be held in the said duration as per the advice of AICC senior observer (Manipur) Jairam Ramesh; AICC in-charge (Manipur) Bhakta Charan Das and MPCC's State leaders.

6 student bodies lend support to JAC bandh
Six student organisations viz- AMSU, MSF, DESAM, KSA, SUK, AIMS today have resolved to support the 24 hours Statewide shutdown called by JAC Against the Brutal Murder of Athuan Abonmai.

The bandh is called to press JAC's demand of expeditious delivery of justice to the late Zeliangrong leader, who was brutally murdered on September 22 in Tamenglong district.

The student organisations, in a joint statement, said that they fully endorsed the call of the JAC to expedite the probe the incident and award befitting punishment to the culprits.

The organisations consider the call of the JAC amidst protests from sections subsequent to the arrest of two suspects, Government's inability to establish facts about the incident and slow paced proceeding as quite reasonable, the organisations said while also assuring to support future course of action adopted by JAC.

The State Government, considering the sentiment, should also ensure that culprits are booked at the earliest and avoid mass protest likely to ensue if justice is not delivered to the late Athuan Abonmai and his family, the joint statement said.

The student bodies also urged all sections of the society to support the call of the JAC.
