Imphal, September 03 2014:
BJP Manipur Pradesh has appealed to the State Government to resolve the impasse and ease the resultant volatile situation besieging Ukhrul town through peaceful dialogue with people of the district.
Speaking to media persons at their office this afternoon, BJP Manipur Pradesh president Thounaojam Chaoba said that the State Government's refusal to revoke prohibitory orders clammed at Ukhrul district headquarters under 144 CrPC and subsequent killing of two civilians were highly condemnable.
Noting that the UNC has already announced to impose indefinite highway bandh with effect from September 4, Chaoba recalled the miseries and woes suffered by the people of Manipur during prolonged highway bandhs and blockades in the past.
In view of the people's bitter experiences about protracted highway bandhs/blockades, the Government should act very tactfully, defuse the situation and bring a solution.
He even suggested political dialogue with public leaders of Ukhrul district.
The Government should first study whether the demands of Ukhrul public are genuine and reasonable and if yes, the Government should act accordingly, Chaoba said.
Opening fire in any attempt to control public protest is not acceptable at all, he asserted.
