RIMS observes Indian Organ Donation Day

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal observed Indian Organ Donation Day at its Jubilee Hall, today .
Prof Naorem Lokendra Singh, Vice Chancellor of Manipur University and Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, Director of RIMS graced the function as chief guest and functional president respectively while Prof N Sanjib Singh, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Hospital and Prof Brogen Singh Akoijam, Dean (Academics), RIMS were the guests of honour.
Prof Lokendra, while expressing his gratitude for inviting him to attend the event, said that life is a precious gift from God.
Saying that organ donation is a life-giving oppor- tunity to help others, he added that community awareness must be raised about the benefits of organ donation to humanity continuously.
He also said that people should be encouraged to become organ donors.
Prof G Sunil Kumar Sharma, on the other hand, said that donating organs is a noble act.
Saying that one organ donor can save or improve the lives of eight or more people, the RIMS Director added that doctors and health workers should play a key role to bridge the existing gap between those needing transplants and the donors.
He also said that no organ can be donated without the consent of the potential donors.
During the programme, some organ donors were felicitated by giving gifts.
A slogan writing competition was also held as a part of the programme.
