Dr Subhas Sarkar takes stock at ground zero

Union Minister of State for Education Dr Subhas Sarkar, who is camping in Imphal, paid a visit to the Tupul landslide spot in Noney district on Sunday morning and was accompanied by MP (RS) Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba and MP of Darjeeling (LS) Raju Bista.
The devastating landslide hit the 107 Territorial Army (TA) camp located at Tupul railway construction camp at Makhuam area of Noney district in the wee hours of Thursday (June 30) .
With the recovery of one more dead on Sunday (till 2 pm), the death toll from the landslide has risen to 35 .
As per an official source, as many as 81 people, mostly TA personnel were affected by the landslide that completely buried the TA camp and other camps located in the area.

The rescue operation launched by a Joint Task Force comprising Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, SDRF, CRPF, Army Medical Doctors, Manipur police, fire service personnel, volunteers of MMTA and locals has so far rescued 18 people alive.
Talking to the media at the spot, the Union Minister said that he visited the spot to take stock of ground situation of the rescue operation.
He informed that the Central Government has taken the tragic incident seriously and the rescue operation is being monitored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Railway Minister personally.
He hoped that bodies of the still missing persons will be recovered soon while sharing his deep grief over the loss of lives due to the tragic accident.
"I pray to God that they should be recovered very early and they will go to their homes very quickly," Dr Sarkar said.
The Minister is on a four-day visit to Manipur.
